Day 9...and a goodbye

So here we are on a lovely sunny Monday. Herman and I spent the weekend together and we had a great time. Although to be honest, Herman doesn't do a huge amount. He has spent the last few days being stirred, growing a little, gurgling a little more and giving off a faint whiff of yeasty bread. 

I actually fed him before the weekend which was an enjoyable experience. He increased to twice if not three times his normal size and became slightly runny. I was afraid for a day or two that I might have killed him, but he recovered reasonably quickly and continued to grow.

It's a bouncing, bubbly bowl of yeast...

And unwittingly I was the one to accept this generous gift from our publisher (ever the one to please) of Herman the German. I am now on day 3 and Herman is sitting on my desk, producing thick, gloopy bubbles and occasionally burping yeasty smells my way. 

I have not been popular this week...


On the other hand I am excited a) because he is not dead (something I worried about on his arrival as I do not have a way with sustaining life) and b) because I like cake. 

Little Orphan Herman

One fine morning, delicious. magazine’s publisher, Adrienne found a little tub on her doorstep with a note:

Always one to take in waifs and strays, Adrienne took little Herman into her family . She followed the instructions and looked after him just as asked. Finally, when it was time, she made him into a cake.
